How I Made My Caribbean Trip Work as a Mom With 72 Hours to Go

How I Made My Caribbean Trip Work as a Mom With 72 Hours to Go

Traveling as a parent can be hard, especially when you do not have dependable help. I may have an idea of where I want to go, but the kids and the logistics can affect whether I am actually able to make the trip. That is why I usually keep about three possible destinations in mind and have a backup plan. I may not know until the last minute which option will work.

I already had ideas for this trip. The final decisions and logistics came together within about 72 hours. I found a really good deal, got everything in place, completed my entry requirements, attached my TSA PreCheck information, packed my bags, and made sure I had my Visa card and cash ready. Once I knew I had the important things covered, I felt so much more at ease. I could finally take a breath and enjoy the fact that I was going.

One travel tip I always recommend to parents is to consider paying more for flexibility when booking. Look for a ticket that allows you to change your travel dates, and choose a hotel booking that lets you change the dates too. It may cost more up front, but when you do not have dependable help, plans can shift. Flexible bookings can give you room to move your trip if the plans with the kids or other logistics change. I keep different trip options in mind for the same reason. If one set of plans does not work, I may still be able to adjust the dates and travel another time.

This trip means a lot to me because the past year was exceptionally hard. I kept working toward my dreams, even when making everything happen felt difficult. I want to share these pieces with you because I feel like you are family. You have seen parts of my journey, my planning, and the effort behind these experiences. I want you to see how beautiful life can be when you look back and recognize how far you have come.

I am sharing moments from last year alongside this year’s journey. Seeing them together reminds me that life keeps moving, even through difficult seasons. Sometimes you are focused on what is hard right now and do not realize how many things you once hoped for are already becoming part of your life.

My travel day began in the dark. I made my way through the airport, boarded the plane, and watched the sunrise through the window after takeoff. I felt excited, grateful, and at peace. All the planning, backup options, and preparation had brought me to that moment, and I was finally on my way.

I hope sharing this encourages another parent who is working through the logistics. Traveling can be hard, and with planning, flexibility, and a backup option, you may still be able to make it happen. Follow along to see how this journey unfolds.
